Kevin Darnell Hart is the child of the late Nancy (who passed away in 2007) and the late Henry Hart, born on July 6, 1979, in Philadelphia. His brother’s name is Robert. The single mother raised him at the University of Pennsylvania, working as a systems analyst in the Department of Student Enrollment and Financial Services.

Since Kevin Hart’s father was a cocaine addict who spent the most of his life in and out of jail, Hart learnt how to cope via humour. His father spent the majority of his life in and out of prison. As his father overcame his addiction, their relationship improved significantly.

Later, in his stand-up performance, he would speak about his mother, depicting her as a loving but scary lady. After graduating from George Washington High School, Hart dropped out of community college in Philadelphia and moved to New York.
